I'm going to focus on trash this year. My goals are to get a waste audit scheduled at my daughter's elementary school and to start working with two teachers who volunteer with a school recycling team and a district sustainability group to improve recycling efforts, increase the use of reusables, and reduce waste throughout the school. I'll get this started by October 15th but plan on working on it through the end of the school year. I'm also going to watch "The Story of Stuff" with my family and see where that takes us at home.

Oh - and just so it's in writing . . . my kids both decided to commit to 5 minute showers throughout the challenge.

Carolyn. Give them the kitchen timer. It worked for my kids and I didn't have to knock on the door and yell "turn it off". We cut our waste back by 75% last year, just by some good ol'precycling efforts. Have a great time and thanks for joining up.
